Eight real sites, with depth, required level and what you actually see at each. No filler.
8–9 m Open Water or Discover Scuba
The main gallery of the Underwater Museum of Art, with over four hundred coral-covered sculptures. Shallow, bright and with long bottom times: the most photogenic site in Cancun and the only one of its kind in the world.
8–12 m Open Water
The natural reef surrounding MUSA, off Isla Mujeres. Coral heads, sand channels and one of the highest chances of seeing green turtles anywhere in the area.
14–18 m Open Water
The reef edge off the Hotel Zone: swim-throughs, mini walls and gentle drift diving. Jacks, snapper, barracuda, eagle rays and, with luck, reef sharks.
~24 m Advanced recommended
An intact wreck covered in coral and sponge, home to big barracuda and jack schools. Exterior diving, no penetration. One of the most characterful sites in the area.
10–16 m Open Water
Northern-zone reefs with formations that create small passages and shelters. A good site for morays, lobsters and large angelfish.
8–14 m Open Water
Thirty minutes from Cancun, the best-preserved reef on the coast. Protected since 1998, with live coral cover and near-guaranteed turtles.
12–20 m Open Water
A former minesweeper sunk off Puerto Morelos, now an artificial reef. Complete structure, barracuda over the deck and rays under the hull.
12–16 m Open Water
The same reef, another planet. Octopus, lobsters, crabs and parrotfish asleep in their mucus cocoons. True colours appear under torchlight.
