Cancun wreck diving + reef dive

Off Punta Cancun lies a coral-covered wreck patrolled by barracuda and schooling jacks. Dropping onto a metal silhouette that slowly resolves out of the blue is a feeling no reef reproduces. The second, shallower dive balances the trip out.

What makes this dive different

  • Wreck at roughly 24 metres, intact and fully colonised
  • Second reef dive at ~16 m to balance the profile
  • Resident barracuda, jacks, snapper and moray eels
  • Certified guide who knows the site and the depth profile
  • Marina and conservation fees included

How the day works, step by step

  1. Meeting point. Marina Aquafun, Hotel Zone. Check-in and gear fitting.
  2. Briefing. Wreck dive plan, depth control, bottom times and ascent. Safety review.
  3. Dive 1 · Wreck. Descent along the line onto the structure. Exterior tour of the wreck and its residents — no penetration.
  4. Surface interval. Mandatory interval on board, hydration and residual nitrogen check.
  5. Dive 2 · Reef. Shallow Punta Cancun reef, brighter, with turtles and rays.
  6. Return. Back to the marina and gear rinse. Total duration around 4 hours.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you go inside the wreck?
No. This is an exterior dive over the structure with no penetration. Wreck penetration requires specific overhead-environment training.
Do I need an Advanced certification?
We recommend it because the wreck sits near the 18-metre Open Water limit. If you are Open Water with recent experience, we adjust the profile to stay within your limits.
What is the usual visibility?
Between 15 and 25 metres for most of the year. On the wreck the sense of scale feels bigger because the structure appears progressively.

“Excellent experience! Rene is a brilliant guide — you can tell he loves what he does and passes on his passion for the sea and marine life at every moment. His instructions and dive plan before every dive make you feel safe and let you enjoy the flora and fauna even more. Highly recommended, I already want to plan new dive trips!”
