MUSA Cancun diving: underwater museum + reef
MUSA is the most famous underwater museum in the world and it sits twenty minutes off the Hotel Zone. More than five hundred coral-covered sculptures rest at nine metres in clear, current-free water — perfect for a long, photogenic dive. We pair it with a second dive on a natural reef, where the turtles show up.
What makes this dive different
- Two dives in one trip: MUSA plus a natural reef
- Comfortable depth (~9 m at the museum) and long bottom times
- Typical visibility of 15 to 25 metres, very little current

How the day works, step by step
- Meeting point. We meet at Marina Aquafun in Cancun's Hotel Zone. Check-in, gear assignment and sizing.
- Briefing. Dive plan, hand signals, maximum depth and museum route. Safety review and gear assembly.
- Dive 1 · MUSA. Descent onto the Salón Manchones sculpture gallery. Guided route among the coral-encrusted figures.
- Surface interval. Water and hydration on board while we move to the second site.
- Dive 2 · Reef. Natural reef inside the marine park with turtles, rays, snapper and angelfish.
- Return. Back to the marina, gear rinse and farewell. Total duration around 4 hours.

Requirements
Open Water certification (or equivalent) and a dive within the last 6 months. If it has been longer, we run a same-day refresher.

Frequently asked questions
How deep are the MUSA sculptures?
The main gallery, Salón Manchones, sits at around 8–9 metres. It is a very comfortable depth that allows long dives and plenty of natural light for photography.
Can I dive MUSA without certification?
Yes, but on a different programme: the Cancun Discover Scuba Diving experience includes MUSA with an instructor beside you. This two-tank trip is for certified divers.
Can you snorkel MUSA?
A few pieces in the shallow gallery are visible from the surface, but the main collection is at nine metres and is only properly enjoyed on scuba.
