Cancun reef diving: 2 dives at Punta Cancun

Punta Cancun is where the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef edges up against the city: swim-throughs, small walls and a gentle current that turns the dive into an effortless glide. This is the classic Cancun reef dive and the best balance of marine life, comfort and price.

What makes this dive different

  • Two dives on the world's second largest reef system
  • Gentle drift diving: you move without swimming, easy on air
  • Swim-throughs and mini walls at around 16 metres
  • Regular turtle, eagle ray and barracuda encounters
  • Marina and conservation fees included

How the day works, step by step

  1. Meeting point. Marina Aquafun, Hotel Zone. Check-in and gear fitting.
  2. Briefing. Dive plan, drift entry, group positioning and signals.
  3. Dive 1. Main Punta Cancun reef: swim-throughs, formations and coral gardens with the current behind you.
  4. Surface interval. Water on board while we reposition for the second site.
  5. Dive 2. Second, shallower and brighter reef — ideal for photography.
  6. Return. Back to the marina and gear rinse. Total duration around 4 hours.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is drift diving difficult?
No. At Punta Cancun the current is gentle and works in your favour: you let it carry you and the boat picks you up wherever you surface. It actually uses less air than swimming.
How is it different from the MUSA dive?
MUSA is a sculpture gallery at nine metres — still and photogenic. Punta Cancun is living reef, a little deeper, with more movement and bigger fish.
Can I do both trips in one day?
Yes, many divers combine MUSA in the morning with the reef in the afternoon. Message us and we will plan the correct depth profile.
