Reef diving in Playa del Carmen

The reefs off Playa del Carmen have something Cancun's do not: relief. Huge barrel sponges, sea fans swaying in the current and low walls that create shelters where morays and lobsters hide. Gentle currents turn every dive into one continuous glide.

What makes this dive different

  • Two dives on reefs with real relief and giant sponges
  • Gentle drift diving — never swimming against the current
  • Turtles, rays, morays and occasional reef sharks
  • Departure from the heart of Playa del Carmen
  • Certified guide and conservation fees included

How the day works, step by step

  1. Meeting point. Kimbe Hotel Boutique, Playa del Carmen.
  2. Briefing. Dive plan, drift entry and group positioning.
  3. Dive 1. Main reef with barrel sponges, sea fans and fish schools.
  4. Surface interval. Interval on board with hydration.
  5. Dive 2. Second, shallower reef to close the trip.
  6. Return. Back to port and gear rinse. Total duration around 4 hours.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is dive gear included?
Not in the base price for this trip, but we have it available. Message us and we will send you the full set price before you book.
How does it compare to Cozumel?
Cozumel has deeper walls and extreme visibility; Playa del Carmen is more accessible, with relief, big sponges and — in winter — bull sharks minutes away.
Can I combine it with cenotes?
Yes, it is the favourite combination: reef one morning, cenote the next day. Message us and we will build the package.

“Excellent experience! Rene is a brilliant guide — you can tell he loves what he does and passes on his passion for the sea and marine life at every moment. His instructions and dive plan before every dive make you feel safe and let you enjoy the flora and fauna even more. Highly recommended, I already want to plan new dive trips!”
