Cenote diving without certification: Casa Cenote
Casa Cenote is an open cenote ringed by mangrove, a channel of crystal water flooded with light. Because it is open and shallow, it is the one place where someone without certification can safely experience cenote diving. And it is nothing like the sea: no waves, no current, and visibility you will not forget.
What makes this dive different

How the day works, step by step
- Pick-up. We collect you from your hotel in Cancun or the Riviera Maya.
- Transfer. Drive to Casa Cenote with an explanation of what is ahead.
- Class and practice. Basic theory and practice in the shallow part of the cenote, where you can stand.
- Dive 1. First guided dive along the cenote channel, among mangrove roots and light.
- Dive 2. Second dive, now more relaxed, to take in the underwater landscape.
- Lunch and return. Lunch included and transfer back to your hotel. Total duration around 7 hours.

Frequently asked questions
Can I dive a cenote without certification?
In an open, shallow cenote like Casa Cenote, yes — always accompanied by an instructor. Closed cavern cenotes (Dos Ojos, The Pit, Zapote) do require Open Water or Advanced certification.
Is it harder than diving in the sea?
The opposite: no waves, no current and enormous visibility. Many people find it easier and calmer than a first dive in open water.
What if I want to dive Dos Ojos afterwards?
The next step is certifying as a PADI Open Water Diver. Plenty of people do Casa Cenote first, get hooked, and come back days later for the course.
