How the day works, step by step
- Planning. The Advanced Open Water course includes 5 adventure dives. Two are mandatory: Underwater Navigation and Deep Diving. To complete the course you select three more adventure dives according to your interests, experience, the day's conditions and site availability. The ones we recommend: Peak Performance Buoyancy, Drift Diving, Wreck, Night Diving, Fish Identification, Underwater Naturalist and Underwater Photography.
- Deep dive. Mandatory. Controlled descent beyond 18 metres, gas management and depth effects.
- Navigation dive. Mandatory. Compass, navigation patterns and natural references.
- 3 elective adventure dives. The three elective adventure dives you selected, at the best sites available for the dates and conditions.
- Certification. We process your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need many dives before the Advanced?
There is no minimum logged-dive requirement — being Open Water certified is enough. That said, the more dives you have, the more you get out of the course.
Which specialities do you recommend?
For the Mexican Caribbean: peak performance buoyancy (it changes your whole diving), naturalist or fish identification, and night. If cenotes are your goal, buoyancy is essentially mandatory.
Can I do it straight after the Open Water?
Yes, and many do. It is the fastest way to go from zero to diving the most spectacular sites in the area within a single week.
Which Advanced Open Water dives are mandatory?
Two of the five adventure dives are mandatory: Underwater Navigation and Deep Diving. The other three are elective and are chosen according to your interests, your experience, the day's conditions and site availability.
Which specialities can I choose on the Advanced Open Water?
