Beneath the turquoise waters of Cancún hides one of the most unique museums on the planet: more than 500 submerged sculptures that have become an artificial reef and a refuge for marine life.
What is the MUSA?
The Underwater Museum of Art is a collection of monumental sculptures installed on the seabed between Cancún and Isla Mujeres. It was created to reduce pressure on natural reefs, giving corals and marine species a home while working as an underwater gallery.
Diving or snorkeling?
- Diving: the sculptures sit at ~8-9 m, with excellent visibility and long bottom times. Suitable for certified divers and Discover Scuba.
- Snorkeling: some pieces can be seen from the surface, though diving is best.
Note: the MUSA is usually combined with a second dive on a natural reef, with turtles, rays and tropical fish.
Do I need certification?
If you are certified, you do the MUSA + reef dive directly. If you have never dived, you visit it with Discover Scuba Diving in Cancún.
