One of the most common questions from visitors to the Mexican Caribbean is whether you can dive without taking a course. The short answer is yes: with Discover Scuba Diving you can enjoy your first dive safely and guided, with no prior certification.
What is Discover Scuba Diving?
It is a program for people without certification or experience who want to dive for the first time accompanied by a PADI instructor. It is not a course with exams: it is a safe introductory experience.
What is a Discover Scuba day like?
- Short briefing on the basics, gear and safety.
- Shallow-water or pool practice to learn to breathe underwater.
- Sea dives: usually 2 dives, always with your instructor by your side.
Where to do my first dive?
- Cancún: reefs and the MUSA, calm waters ideal to start.
- Puerto Morelos: a protected reef inside a National Park.
- Playa del Carmen and Cozumel: vibrant reefs with great visibility.
- Cenotes: crystal-clear water and a unique setting.
What if I want to get certified?
The next step is the PADI Open Water Diver course, which lets you dive independently to 18 meters. Many start with a Discover Scuba and come back to certify.
