Discover the Shipwrecks of Cancun National Park, sunk in 2000 to aid local reefs. Explore one of the premier dive sites in the region, tailored for the most adept and seasoned divers. These wrecks, transformed into artificial reefs, once served as US Navy vessels employed as minesweepers during World War II. Deliberately sunk, they now stand as vibrant artificial reefs, contributing to the regeneration of marine life along the coast of Cancun, Mexico.

Depending on weather conditions we can choose between C-55 or C-58 wrecks for the first dive, we do a second dive in a Punta Cancun Reef.

Diving among Punta Cancun’s sunken ships provides a captivating glimpse into maritime history. Teeming with marine life and vibrant coral growth, these wrecks offer an unforgettable adventure for enthusiasts seeking both excitement and immersion in maritime heritage.

For the second dive explore stunning dive sites like Punta Negra, La Harradura, Grampin, El Túnel, and San Toribio in the Punta Cancun area for an exhilarating drift diving experience. Drift along the reef effortlessly, conserving energy, at a depth of around 55 feet (15 meters), offering extended bottom times and captivating coral swimthroughs. Encounter diverse marine life, including eels, rays, nurse sharks, and a variety of reef fish.


Some history about the Shipwrecks of Cancun:

The C-55 Juan de la Barrera, at a depth of around 77 feet (23 meters), is a World War II-era Admirable-class minesweeper, constructed in San Francisco and launched in 1943. With a notable history patrolling the South Pacific and participating in rescue missions, it earned three battle stars for its service in the Pacific during the war; also it was decommissioned in 1946 and placed in reserve, sunk in 2000. The C-58 General Anaya in Cancun’s at a depth of around 80 feet (24 meters), was an Admirable-class minesweeper built for the United States Navy during World War II. She served in the Atlantic during WWII. It was decommissioned in May 1946 and placed in reserve, sunk in 2000.  Despite hurricanes, the wreck is split into two parts on the sandy floor of the Mexican Caribbean, offering stunning views and the chance to spot groups of 10-20 Eagle rays in winter.


Important information

  • To participate in this activity a minimum Open Water Diver Certification is required
  • If you haven’t dived in the last six months prior the activity, please inform our team to ensure a comfortable diving experience
  • With a group of between 6 and 10 divers, we can explore both sunken ships (C55 & C58) in a single day using a private boat exclusively for the group.
